Malangwer

Denmark Dela Cruz

March 27 to April 20, 2021

Malangwer comes from a Pangasinan word for not yet ripe or still innocent. Pertaining to the hapless souls in children who are the focus of Dela Cruz’s oeuvre. Be it traditional media or the prevalent world-wide web, children had been subjected to torture and deceit everywhere. There are more into pornography, child prostitution and a lot are corrupted by extreme video games that steals away their time and money.

Every single day the world is getting smaller and more dangerous to the Filipino child. There is always someone being molested, prostituted, or a victim of war between soldiers and rebels.

If one is already disillusioned to what is happening, we turn to art for comfort and understanding. As Denmark Dela Cruz focuses on children, his plea is to the cause of children and in his first exhibition, Malangwer, he seeks to uplift their plight through his intense visual imagery and aesthetics.
