Art critic Alice Guillermo wrote about an emergence of new figuration with social theme after our temporal new found freedom in 1986 dismantling a dictatorship of more than two decades of struggle.

Eskinita Art Gallery for its inaugural exhibition at its newly found home, Noventa gathers significant Filipino contemporary artists who all rose from their committed art practice during this tumultuous era and continued to blaze the trail in changing the course of Philippine art scene.

Most of these award-winning artists situates our common everyday experiences by reflecting our current predicament. They have fostered new directions in Philippine painting that they have passionately espoused when they were young and now are more confident in their brushstrokes and relevant in their form and content. More than nostalgia, they speak of the insistence of a more involved form of representation that adheres to art as an agent of social change; that to paint, sculpt and create art as a form of meditative responsibility to the given milieu. They reconfigure their creativity based on their own terms—issues and longings”
